computer and engine mixes?

I am in a strange bind. I have a euro early 944 with a bad engine. I'm looking for a suitable replacement engine and was wondering if anyone knew about the computer's ability to run different engines. I thought either a late 944 2.5 or a 2.7 would have similar characteristics and might run with my computer. I thought I had read that the computer runs just lookup maps after the air flap fully opens at a fairly low RPM. Only other sensor is RPM to my knowledge.

Other options would be to change both engine and computer and install an 02 sensor.

Thanks for any help.

If you go with a late engine you will have to go with the late dme. Same thing with the 2.7.

The dme will at least start the car, but that's about it.

You could always just get an early engine too. There are some guys up in your neck of the woods that are always parting out cars.

AFM and DME must be from the same year/model and will work on any na 8v 2.5l. Put an FRWilk chip in it and delete the need for the O2 sensor. No need to replace a pipe or fab one for a O2 bung if chipped.

So if I buy a late 2.5 with the 10.2:1 CR and use the AFM and euro DME I will be OK? Euro engine has 10.6:1 and requires premium, so I thought spark advance might be different. I would also be using all of my early stuff, AAR, etc. I'm not sure what else is different, but AAR is for sure.

I did notice that the AFM p/n is the same on my car and from a US '83 I have.

I will look through the FR wilk stuff a bit more to see what they offer.

Thanks

I would ask Geo. B about that as I am not sure how the euro DME/AFM plays into it on a USA spec engine but can say the Euro DME will not require the O2 sensor so that is another way to avoid a sensor installed. I also doubt the .4 in CR difference makes any but again not certain, very well could be an A/F-timing issue. George B will be able to get you in the correct mindet I believe, give him a shout.
