special lug nut size

I am in the process of taking off the lugs from the new car I picked up and each wheel has 4 19mm lugs and 1 larger lug that I can't seem to get anything to fit. I am sure it is there for security reasons but does anyone know what size socket/special tool I need to get them off? TIA

PO's can do funny things. It is even a lug nut or just a bolt?

Have you tried standard sockets?

I have tried everything that I can think of except a 20 mm which I can't seem to find. The problem is that a regular socket is too thick and that I can't get it to the lug without hitting the outside of the rim hole? grrrrrr

is it a wheel lock, like a special nut-head that requires a key? Is there one on each of the four wheels?

The way I see it you have 3 options:
1) Look around the car and try to find the lock nut key( could be just a fitting to go over the lug nuts)
2) Try to find a socket/spanner to fit the lug.
3) Use a cold chisel to romve the lug nuts then go and get a new set and keep the key in the glove box.
I prefer option 3

socket

Hey ply , I read this post before and I found that socket you need for that lugnut if you already havnt removed them.

I dont know how I have one but I found it going through some old parts.

If you need it, just pay postage and return it to me. Thanks

If the outside of the socket is too large and hits the wheel, then a grinder will fix that. I have had to do this before on something else I was working on. I had the right size socket but the outside was too big. I took a grinder to the outside of the socket until it fit.
