Question Reguarding the AmpS Need some help!

OK. Not sure if this is a problem, or possibly if my amp gauge is not reading correctly. I know the needles were off at one point to install a White face gauge set from the previous owner.

Just replaced my Alternator with a 115 amp new/ rebuilt one from autozone. I replaced due to having battery issues, thought it was the battery and took the alternator off, just in case, to have it checked at autozone. Well after the check it Failed, so I bought a new/ rebuilt one and installed it on.

Well with the No good Alt, my amp gauge was running at 14 or just above the 14. With this new alternator it is running on the gauges 13.5 to just under the 14. Is this cool? I don't have a way to check at the moment, but everything seams to be working just fine, have drove it several times this weekend and have noticed no issues.

I think the old one was either putting out too much or not enough, kept draining the battery after a week of use. Wanted to get some input form someone. Like I stated earlier, there is a possibility the needle is off. I know there were taken off at one time, and the fuel needle dosen't read full when topped off. THanks Mike

Mike, It's cool. Anywhere around the 14 mark is ok. It's the regulator that shuts it off and you can buy an adjustable one if it bothers you but that's plenty of battery to start your car. Good luck.

The gauge is just a good reference. I wouldn't use it as an absolute. Same for every car. It's best to measure things with a good digital multimeter.

If the gauge is close to 14 then you are ok, I wouldn't worry about it.

it's not an amp meter but a voltmeter.

13.5 isn't bad if lights/running lites, a/c, fans and any stereo equipment is on and the car is at operating temp.

with all the above on, at operating temp, i'll see about 13.9 and just over 14v just after starting.

Well wanted to give an update. witht the change of the Alternator, I have not had any problems and everything is working fine. No glitches, no dimming lights, everything seams to be running smooth! Thanks again for the help, Mike
