Gasket between CV and Stub Axle?
Hello Folks,
In getting things apart to continue the wheel bearing job, it appears there is no gasket between the outboard CV and the stub axle. So the boot and the CV bolts, and neightboring stuff is full of grease and gunk, and the joint between the CV and the stubb axle had grease in it. So it appears that the CV grease has been leaking out between the 2 pieces. I looked on the Pelican part diagram, and didn't find anything. Is there supposed to be a gasket there? Does your CV not leak over time due to this absence? Thanks very much. |
There should be no gasket between the CV and what you call stub axle. At the joint you will see grease whenever you unbolt the CV to remove the drive shaft as some will always leak out. Of course if the CV are not bolt in properly then some grease will leak out.

no gasket.
I recently replaced all four CV joints and I had the same question. No. No gaskets are required by design.
