Offset question

I have a late 85 (23.3 offset). Was looking at the wheels that tire rack has. for the from they have a 23 offset, but for the rear it is a 15 offset. I thought you couldn't go lower in number for the offset, but could go higher. Isn't this why late cars can't put the Fuch wheels on their cars? Always thought early cars can have late wheels, but late cars couldn't have early wheels.

Am I missing something or am I wrong? This setup wouldn't work on a 944, or will it?

The lower the offset number, the farther out the wheel sits.

Early (23.3mm) offset on a '87+ car will stick out to far and rub on the fenders (or stick past the fenders). Early offset 15x6 and 16x6 wheels sit almost perfectly flush with late offset fenders, but that is far to narrow to be of any use.

This is why you can run late offset wheels on early offset cars with proper spacers.

15mm offset in the rear should work fine..they will stick out about 1/4 an inch farther out. Not a big deal.
