rear oil seal install
While in replacing my clutch I decided to remove the flywheel and replace the rear oil seal. Removed the old seal and installed a new one. While in the process of reassembling the clutch and bellhousing I noticed oil leaking from the rear seal area. I installed the seal flush with the block surface. Should the seal seat in farther and could this be the cause of the new seal leaking?
I appreciate any suggestions. |

Did you wipe it clean after you changed it?

Yes, I wiped it clean before installing the new seal.

I do think it's suppose to be recessed. I remember thinking you could almost put two seals in there. If you didn't seat it properly, it's probably crooked and it will not seal.

Thanks. I will disassemble and see if it will seat deeper. I don't remember the original being too deep, but I didn't try to go beyond flush with the housing so it may well be not completely seated.
