Death by Porsche...slowly
Ok, so here is the run down....
Bought the car, it had been sitting for three years... Pertinant information.... 1. The horn beeped every time the door opened when I went to trailer it home 2. It starts in starter fluid, or did then, but it has yet to run on gas 3.Replaced Fuel Pump Fuel Filter Fuel Damper Fuel Pressure Reg. All Vac hose Battery Ignition coil Spark plugs Plug Wires DME ALL small fuses Headlamp relay J-boot ---- cleaned all fuel lines, jumpered the pump, all is well. so then I... -----Tested for spark, no spark -----jumpered the alarm, no help The horn will sound when I go to crank the car, but not every time, and that is a new development, really only happened when I went to try to crank it, and the battery had started to lose power. I have a trickle charger on the battery that I plug it into to keep it charged. I do have a factory alarm, but my ignition key does not fully fit it...however I can turn the keyhole cylinder??? Shoul dit be vertical? Horizintal? HELP!!!! There is no spark that I can see.....have not tested the injectors What do I do next??? Thank you all for your continued help. What do you think, is this an electrical issue related to the alarm???? I just really don't want to have to pay a 100 dollar an hour mechanic, and the tow, and the yadda yadda, when I should be able to do this on my own, and use that money to buy things the car needs.

so if it ran on starter fluid, then u just need to check fuel again. if u have pressure at rail, and injectors actually fire.

You must have spark if it runs on starting fluid... unless it only ran that way before you did all the work?? How are you testing for spark? Are you sure the coil is hot?

Your injectors are clogged from stale fuel. It happened to my car as it sat for a long time before i got it. Pop them off, and soak them in carb or brake cleaner. Take the o-rings off before you do, as they will swell. Maybe before you pull the injectors, check for noid. They sell a light up tool that you plug into the injector harness, and it will flash a light everytime the computer commands the injector tofire. If it runns on starting fluid, and you have pressure, its a problem with the delivery

Sure... wire up a 9v battery and touch the metal connectors on the injector where the harness plugs in. You can squirt some carb cleaner in the injector, let it soak for a minute holding it up right, then pulse the injector by holding one wire on the connector and brushing the other. You will hear a click each time you pulse it. I do it about about 5 times for 5 clicks, dump the carb cleaner out, and go from there. Hasn't failed me yet.

Have you been introduced to clark's garage yet?
www.clarks-garage.com Check the garage shop manual... No spark is dme relay, dme, coil, cap, rotor, injector wires, injectors, plugs. Pull the the wire off the last injector, closest to the fire wall, and start the car. If it starts but stumbles, bad FPR.

tested for spark by pulling the plug, and grounding on the intake......and yes it started on starter fluid before all the work, about a month ago.

Uh oh... you replaced all the vac lines???
Check the main vac line running from the brake booster to under the intake manifold below and behind the throttle body... I routinely forget to put that bastard back on and it causes me all sorts of grief.

Sounds like you have done all the right things so far. Just a thought---this may be related to the alarm. Try disconnecting the alarm wires at the horns.

If your car came with the factory alarm and you say the horn goes off when you open the door, then your factory alarm works and is "armed." Which means it will not let your car start.
One thing that comes to mind is the switch located near the fuse box attached to the frame of the car. Make sure that switch is tight, so it doesn't fall out when you close the engine hood. If that switch falls out when you close the hood, then the alarm will also be armed and not allow the car to start. To fix, or test your factory alarm: 1) close the driver's door 2) turn the key/alarm vertical 3) open the driver's door or the engine hood IF the loud horn goes off, THEN your factory alarm is working properly. Hope this helps. (You may have to try setting the alarm on and off a couple times until you know which key position is correct.)

2 thoughts. There is a bypass for the alarm to test if that the is the problem. Clarks Garage has a write up on it. If that doesnt work and the injectors are clearn test the DME relay by bypassing it. Again Clarks Garage has a write up on how to do that.
