944S wont start- possible ingition

I have a 87 944S. The one night I couldnt get it started and I thought i ran out of fuel cuz the light was on. I eventually got it started after about 5 minutes and it ran fine. I drove straight to the gas station and filled up. The same thing happened again when I tried to leave. Eventually it started and I drove it home. I have not been able to start it since. I tested the fuel system and it is working fine I have plenty of flow and pressure. pulled plugs and they look fine all wires look fine. distributor and rotor look fine. tested ignition coil..got very poor readings and then bought a new one. Still doesnt start. I have no spark. I am thinking next either the igntion control unit or the DME. I do not know how to test these units or even where the ignition control unit is. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What he said. it's common. there is a way to jump it out to see if the fuel pump runs, do a search here or at clarks-garage.com

if you have no spark, the dme itself maybe bad. try tapping it lightly it may have some loose connections.

More likely the ignition control module than the DME.

Try disconnecting/reconnecting your speed sensor. At the moment this works for me!

Its the ignition control module and there is no solution you have to get a new one. When you replace it remove it from the aluminum heat sink that it is bolted to. Clean off the aluminum and use some fresh di-electric grease on the aluminum plate. Then bolt the new module up and you will be in business, the di-electric grease acts as a coupling to transfer the heat to the plate and make the module work like it was designed and last! The 944 S and S2 engines have modules there the only ones.

I removed and tested speed sensor and it was around 900 ohms which is within range. Still does not start. Could it also be within the reference sensor? I will check the reference sensor this afternoon.

I will look into the ignition control module asap. How are you so sure that it is the problem though?

I have now replaced the ignition control module with no luck. I am not sure where to look next.
