Steering column removal

Who has done it? Any suggestions or tips?

Already have the steering shaft removed in the engine compartment.

Thanks

Yep, remove steering wheel and switches, remove instruments, remove dash, grind off shear bolts attaching column to chassis, pull column out of the firewall.

That's what it looked like. Down to just the sheer bolts now. Looked pretty straight forward.

thanks Geroge

Can it be removed with the dash in the car or does the dash have to come out?

I don't see how you can get to it with the dash in the car. At least, on 100 cars or so, I haven't been able to do it.

That's what I figured. Have the dash ready to come out.

For removing the dash, clarks calls for removing the sunvisors. Is this really necessary or can I skip that step?

I would like to see it done without removing the sunvisors... if you can figure it out, you're much smarter than I.

Got it out. I just loosened the screws for the sun visors.

All cleaned up and ready for the new dash to go in.

No, I dont think so. Just used to being able to bend some things from lots of speaker/radio installs.
