Stumped...

I got this 87' 944'S from my brother in December. He drove it from Cali to NJ to hand it over to me. So you can tell its a strong running car since it made it that far. All in all the car runs great except...It had a hard (cold morning) start problem from sitting in the driveway in sunny California for 5 years. Brought it in to get looked at and mechanic said there is just too much gunk inside the engine and would have to remove the head to clean all of it. No thanks, not yet...

So I took the Intake off and sprayed some cab+choke cleaner thru the butterfly. Seems to be working fine now. After that I just put some high octane with some Chevron Techron in the tank. Runs even better.

Anyway, on the way to work this morning with the car fully warmed up and after driving it for 10 mins already, I went to take a right hand turn and dropped it into 2nd gear, holding the clutch in a little bit longer than usual to coast thru the turn and the car stalled...It didn't even attend to idle, it skipped that and stalled right out. Started right back up but was a little hesitant in 2nd and 3rd gear with the pedal all the way to the floor...

I plan on tracking the car soon and def don't want this to happen on the track.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I had this same issue in my '89, and finally tracked it down to..... the big power cable going to the starter. Yep. No kidding.
I had removed and reinstalled my starter in order to add a flywheel lock when I was changing my belts, and when I hooked everything back up I routed the largest cable in such a manner that the side of the cable was loosely touching the thread of the other electrical post on the starter. Over time this threaded post wore a neat hole in the side of the cable due to vibration and movement. The result was that when I took a really hard right, the cable would shift enough that the post and the interior of the cable made contact, closing the circuit and stalling the car.
I'm not saying this is necessarily what is going on with your car, but it might be worth checking out.

The power cable to the started happen to me too...of course it left my wife stranded and she was pisssssed at me

If you are going to track the car...I highly recommend finding (unless you are already into racing and have experience with this stuff) a good European tuner shop to go over the car (probably cost 100USD...or maybe free) and explain to them you are going to track the car and want them to inspect the car for this type of driving. If the car had been sitting for 5 years and you take it on a track and hammer on it...same thing as a 40 year old man who has not worked out in 5 years, running a mile in 6 minutes. All kinds of stuff could go wrong ! Tracking a car is very hard on the suspension, tires, really hard on the brakes!!! and could be hard on the transmission and motor if they are not tuned correctly.
