Porsche Crest 85.5 944 Rescue and Restoration

I have my 85.5 in hand now. It's Charcoal Grey (need to look up 'real' color), with black leather interior in very good shape, power windows, manual door locks, black fuchs with polished lip. So the Restoration will now begin, though it will be taking place slowly over the winter in my in-laws garage. I will post pics asap! =D

85.5 944 NA 5spd with 91k on the clock

List Order: List is in order. Anything on top trumps anything on the bottom. =)

Next Action: Get replacement caliper shipped and back, install rear brakes, do trans fluid, and suspension, etc!

Completed
  • Removed Rear Brakes - Parking Brake Shoes are good, original brakes look new but old/rusted... pads look(ed) new.
  • Water Pump Mount Kit - 944-106-000 KT [$43.87] (Pelican Price: ?)

  • Add Fuel Stabilizer and Put a fresh tank of gas in
  • Drained off 1 qt of Oil, added a new qt, to survive trip to PA
  • New Interstate battery - Correct size and CCA/Amps
  • Replaced broken drivers side door handle with passenger after swapping guts (the shells are identical), also replaced linkages on both sides, and replaced the roll pins (which are not compatible with the new linkages, Porsche, with the M3 bolts, washers, and nuts)

Hey Phoenix,

Just finished up this ’87. Took me over a year and a few Franklins but she is a sweetheart. Only 150 more miles until the belts retension. I did everything on your list and then some including the ES100’s. Now it’s on to more performance related stuff…or should I begin the Miata transformation…944, Miata, 944, Miata, can someone help me?

Happy tinkering.

Porsche Crest

Looking good. some of my bushings look new, but suspension will be next. I have Koni M030 package on the way (used of course). What color (official) is your grey. Mine is the 'other' grey, so I can use my powers of deduction and know my official color (probably the one I cannot pronounce)! =)

Tell me a price. I have an order in with Rock auto for Beck Arnley ones, would gladly make a friend and save some dough if they are worth their weight. =)

I think I bought them for 75 w/o shipping, so does $60 sound right to you? They are Zimmermans, bought from Pelican, stock for late 944's.

Sounds good but I already have my order in, I think I paid ~$75 w/o shipping. Beck/Arnley Premium Vented... should be ok. Put them for sale in the local and/or regular forum.

I put Beck Arnley vented from Rock Auto on the Miata. Great disks at a great price. The previous owner of the 944 had already replaced the disks (with vented which i think is factory for 87's).
