Oh No.. Not another loud injector story

Now that my car is running properly, thanks for the help everyone(bad reference sensor connection) I would like to get to the problem with the injectors. They are crazy loud. One Porsche dealer and two independents that do lots of service on 944,s have said that my injectors are crazy loud .. the worse they have heard.. My brother just got a 90 S2 like mine and his are noticeable but not loud like mine. Everyone has done all kinds of tests and its definitely coming from the injectors. Its all of them, one does not stick out over the others. They were just replaced with rebuilt ones but the old ones made the same noise. The engine is completely rebuilt and runs perfect otherwise. Is there anything else in the system that could possibly cause this?? Other than this, life is perfect. any ideas?? thanks Doug

Bump for any advice, mine are crazy loud also.

Loud enough you can sorta hear them with the hood even closed at idle.

It is also all 4 of them, not any one in particular. I thought it was bad lifter noise but it is definitely emanating straight from the injectors.

Other than the loud sound, it runs and revs just perfect....

first check part numbers on the injector and then fuel pressure at idle, nothing definate here just ruling out the obvious.

Are you using the injector retaining clips? I pulled my intake manifold off a few weeks back, and when I put everything back together I had some seriously loud injectors.

Upon inspecting everything, I realized that I shoved the injector too far into the fuel rail, attempting to engage the lower groove with the clip. Once I pushed the injectors down, and locked the clip into the upper groove, they quietened down back to normal.

Interesting Jack. I will check that out on mine. The porsche dealer installed the recent ones before I picked up the car. However that doesn"t mean anything. My fuel pressure if flat on spec. Mine are audible 20 ft away with ear plugs in!!! After reading some stuff on this site I figured it was normal until my brother got his 90 S2 and I could compare. No comparison... mine are crazy loud. Something is not right. Doug

This won't cure your problem, but I too did not like the sound of my injectors as it made the engine sound like crap - constantly ticking. Unfortunately, "pulse injectors" do make a lot of noise.

I purchased the factory sound pads for the hood for about $125 and I cannot hear the injectors (at all) when the hood is closed.

However, you may have louder than normal and should figure that out too but a pad is a definate improvement in sound quality.

If his injectors are anywhere near as loud as mine were, when they were seated wrong. Then no amount of hood pad will quiet them down :D

It can be pretty darned loud, and make you think that something bad is about to happen.

i like the sound of the injectors ticking away happily. ;)
