Cheers all,
I am a long time Italian car tech who just bought his first Porsche. 1986 944 N/A, Guards red/Black, 149K. The original owner was an ex-military chopper pilot, and maintained the car like an aircraft. Stacks of receipts, full service history since day one. The car looks and drives like a new car. Paid $4000, which I think was a bargain.

I have owned nearly 100 vehicles in my lifetime, including some pretty exotic Italian stuff. This car is definitely in my top 5. The combination of looks, performance, quality, practicality and economy is unbeatable. I'm hooked.

I bought the car knowing that the sunroof didn't work. The two broken microswitches in the glovebox told me where to look. My car has the Feb 1986-on sunroof mechanism. A call to the dealer confirmed price and availability of the parts. $28.00 for a microswitch? Give me a break! The same part is available through your friendly neighborhood Allied electronics store. Their part number is 908-1191. $4.08 each. The terminals are narrower than the originals however, so if you go this route, you'll have to crimp on new connectors to the wiring. I can live with this. Two new switches, a quick adjustment to the slip clutch, and I now have a sunroof that functions perfectly. I hope this is useful to someone!
