Lightbulb Idle Acting up

I finally took the car for a long drive yesterday...wow it needed it, according the previous owner, the car had been sitting for 2 years ! Anyway the car runs pretty well, after many hours of work on my part.

The problem:

When I am sitting at idle (eg stop light) the car 90% of the time idles smooth, in fact smoother than my wife's 2007 BMW 3 series (hate that car) anyway the other 10% of the time, the idle does a little weird dance, where the idle bounces a little, the oil pressure bounces around as well.

I had one more question:

The engine (!) light is always on in my car...even if I run the codes will it make a difference ? Why is this light usually on ? In addition my Anti-lock brake light is on, but I had the brake system checked and it is fine...I even slammed on the brake and the ABS works fine.

Idle Acting Up

I had a similar problem with my 84 and it turned out to be a leaking cover on the AFM (Air Flow Meter). Cleaned it up and did a good reseal with some black RTV and it smoothed right out.

Could be bad O2 sensor. When it goes the idle mixture is too rich and idle can suffer a bit.
