944 Sunroof problems-HELP
Hello all,
I am having difficulty with part of the sunroof operation on a 88 16V. The roof will go up and down and switch itself off at the limits when the key is in the "on" position-all this is GREAT. Heres the problem: When puting the key in position 1 to "unlock" the roof and remove it -- the motor will not stop itself before it strips out the plastic gears in each of the roof gear drives. If you stop it on your own at the point to release the roof ,all will be OK, then you can move the switch to the other location, and it will relock the roof and stop exactly at the right point where it is locked in place. Any ideas? all three of the micro switches are working. I clearly understand the roof lifted full open shut off switch, the roof lowered shut off switch(this sits next to the third switch), and the third switch-which I question, I think is entirely too close to the roof lowered down switch and couldnt possibly be far enough away to be the unlock full limit switch(the mechanical levers wouldnt get fully disengaged from the roof to remove the roof) I hope I have been clear, any help would be appreciated. Does the full unlock movement stop on its own(via microswitch) Does this sunroof need to be this complicated-What was Porsche thinking. Thanks, Mike Winebrenner |

I need to stop mine manually, or it will strip the gears.... Never checked into whether or not the limit switch should stop it or not in that position.

There are 2 microswitches on the motor mounting bracket. IIRC one of them is used during the removal cycle. Pull the motor and test the microswitches. They may need to be replaced or adjusted to force the switch to activate at the correct positiion.
