Worn Cam Lobes Pics Needed

Does anyone have any photos of worn cam lobes for a Porsche 944..I would prefer to see a high mileage worn out head with the cams, etc. This will give me a good idea of the condition of the top end of my motor.

Also what is the basic rebuild recommended for the 3.0L motor...?

Well, I don't have any pics for you at this time, but a worn down cam is unmistakable! There is a hardened surface on the lobes of the cam, once this hardened surface is worn through the lifter rides on the non-hardened metal and wears down very quickly. A cam that is getting ready to go will have pits or cracked off edges of the surface near the peak of the lobes. A cam that is completely worn will show a darker ground down metal surface at the peak of the lobe instead of the nice chrome looking hardened surface visible on the rest of the lobe.

I may have a couple of worn cams at the shop, if I can find one I will try to take some pics for you later today.

Hope it helps,
-Nick

I think Nick pretty well covered it. I pitched my old ground up cam or i'd get you a pic. It was a low-mileage racing cam I had in my truck....I chewed it up in nothing flat and never bought another crane cam.

Crane Cams are terrible

The only thing I notice is a little bit of darker colored metal on a few of the lobes...best decribed as little triangle shaped dark spots on the lobe edges.
