Porsche Crest Problem with Zims Pads on Cams

Hello all,

I just put Zims pads on my cam tensioner and when I started the car the chain was making noise on the pads. I then took the valve cover off and inspected the tensioner, I have good oil, the tensioner seems fine, I pushed it down a couple of times. Put the valve cover back on and the noise stopped. The I started the car up the next day and started to pull out of the garage. The noise is back . I called Zims and they said perhaps the pads need to wear into the chain...hmmmm. Or break apart and kill my motor.

I need help !

Replace the tensioner! Not just the pads...

I had the top pad on my S replaced. There was no noise before or after and the old pad actually still looked half decent. I suspect you may have other problems than just a worn pad. How many miles on the car?

After closer inspection, it looks like the new upper pad does not fit correctly, the edge of the chain hangs over just my (mm's) and is causing the chain to make noise on the pad. I am very disappointed in this product. Since it was my lower pad was the bad one, I will put the old one back in for now and order an entirely new tensioner.

I'm starting to second guess the parts those guys sell. A new ignition switch lasted 3 months! I digress, being 10 minutes from my home makes them pretty attractive.

Was the pad put on backwards? Mine fit and work perfectly. I got them from Zims too.

This is a really confusing problem. When I put the old upper pad back on it no longer fits correctly either. For some reason the chain is no longer centered on the pad ??? There is no way to put the pad on backwords and there is no way to adjust the tensioner from left to right...CRAZY STUFF ! All I can do at this point is hope the chain wears the pad down and the noise stops. I need to get a new tensioner very soon...almost like somehow the tensioner was bent...how I have no idea...I will take pictures tomorrow, and will attempt to figure out the problem once more.
