Rear hatch issues
 

My 89 944 hatch has never opened with the key since I bought it a year ago,
This wasn't a problem since the remote worked just fine.
I did test the microswitch with a multimeter and its fine, so put up with it.

Now though if I hit the release button the hatch unlocks but doesn't re lock, you have to hold the button until the motor cycles and locks again.
The motor unit faulty?
Any clues?

Check the lock with out the hatch being there, lift the hatch and hold it up. And see where the hole is, there is blade work like a scissors open and close? If it does spray some lubrication like WD40 to clean it and use White Litium grease or spray. Make sure that the drain pipe is connected.
