What DMEs can I use?

got an '88 944. DME has Autothority chips in it, and I would like to swap them out for stock for various reasons. Unfortunately the PO lost them and the '88 DME is apparently one year only (ends in 05.) I have seen a couple -04 and -06 DMEs for sale but no -05s. Can I successfully/safely try any of those or should I hold out for another -05?

thanks

nate

When I chipped my old 83 944, I was surprised to see that it had a 1987 DME. Car ran fine. I think you would PROBABLY be okay...

Was it in '87 or '88 where they increased the compression ratio on the NA's?

That might be the reason for the different PN's, and could affect your using an older DME in your '88 car. Someone who is sure needs to chime in on when that change was made

Cheers,

I'm not sure about the DME's but the '88 944 and 924S shared the same higher compression engine than the '87 models.

higher compression motors were 88 only - 944 and 924s- i believe the computer would be different just that year.
