clutch disk failure
83 NA had a new clutch kit put in b4 I got it. The master cly had a bad enough leak that the clutch did not operate. I replaced the master cly and bleed the system to get the clutch to function. The clutch would not release however and I pulled the clutch out to find the disk was separated, and basically had ate itself, making it thicker than spec causing the "non-release condition"
Before I start putting the clutch back together I just wanted to get opinions as what might have happened to cause this. "ignore the rust, its been out for a while" http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212688633.jpg ALSO is the side thats up in the photo, toward the motor or toward the trans? I forget, and I if it can be put in backwards I'll find a way sometimes:) |
Here is a pic to Q#2
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212690650.jpg To add to various opinions about why: 1. Previous owner did too many backward rolling "J" burnouts! 2. Somebody likes to ride the clutch 3. The flywheel was not refinished/polished when disc replaced and chewed it up. 4. Disc was from a wrecking yard or used eBay purchase to save money Caused a bit of a vibration I bet. Could be the heater valve blew and yakked coolant all over the bellhousing, contaminating the clutch.

Hi, just a guess but maybe the master cylinder adjustment rod where the foot pedal is was adjusted incorrectly and not letting the clutch fully disengauge.
