Unhappy strange leak?

hi i've recently noticed a leak on my late 85 .... of antifreeze but not in the common spots you would expect them this leak looked to me like it was coming from the rear of the engine around the heater valve and hoses and always drips from on top to the bottom of the starter....i changed the heater valve and the hose from the top of the engine but not the hose that i believe goes in the car has anybody had this problem do you think it's the other hose i will check further or could this be another problem ... thanks really gettin fed up

"...but not the hose that i believe goes in the car..." STOP! this hose goes to the heater core under your dash and to change it your need to remove the dash. I think the problem is the small hose from the top of the heater valve to block. Did you clean and polish the fittings before you put on the small "J" hose. I used a Dremmell with a wire brush to remove the corrosion.

Good luck,

Check the bottom of the block off plate...if coolant is leaking from here it will run down to the back of your motor. Take your finger and run under the plate and feel for fluid.

To assist in finding the leak, get a radiator pressure kit. Some auto parts shops loan them out or Sears will sell you one. It will pressurize your cooling system at the radiator cap and then you can take your time to find the leak when the engine is cool!

Good luck
