944 Leaking

I have just purchased a 1984 944 2.5 8v. The back seat and floor on the drivers side (right side for me;UK) are very damp, the passenger side is dry as a bone. Any suggestions as to where I should look for the leak?

Tom

The battery tray is a common leak, but I'm not exactly sure yours is on that side of the car.

make sure the drains for the sunroof are clear, remove the roof and in the corners there are drains, use a hose and add water to the channel and ensure the water flows into the drains and flows through the tubes and out of the car. also check for seperation of the hatch glass to the upper frame. if still stuck close all doors and have someone inside the car, hose the outside and see where water is getting in, btw, good time to clean the drains at the rear spoiler also

If it's in the back seat it's going to be the sunroof drains. Common and easy to fix.

Weed eater line works great, if you want to use compressed air, blow from the hatch up, not sure if it matters on the windshield side.

It could also be the back hatch seal. Also, how's the metal trim seated against the hatch window? Is it separating?

I *think* I have found the source of the problem. I checked the sunroof drains which I found to be all clear. I also checked the hatch seals which also seemed fine. I was then stumped for a little while until I discovered another little drain in the fuel cap.

After further exploration I found that the pipe that was connected to that was detatched. It also happened to be blocked so I think the previous owner had pushed it out trying to unblock it. The water must have been running down one of the panels in that area and was running into the panel below the back right seat. There was a nice little pool of water in the panel of the front the lip of the back right seat.

Ive stuffed some newspaper inbetween the seat fabrics, hopefully doing this a few times will dry it out nicely.

Tom
