924S servicing schedule
Hi folks - my neighbor has a 924S with 79K miles on her that has been parked for nearly 15 years. What should I expect by way of reconditioning / servicing schedule to get her back in the road properly?
Thanks, Tom |

It should be towed to the shop for belts (front of engine service) before you attempt to start it. Draining the fuel tank, replacing fuel filter, changing oil, coolant, brake fluid, and gear oil is also prudent.

Also, if the parking brake has been on, it will be seized by now. The disc rotors will probably be rusted out, but may have enough surface left for skimming. Use a wrench on the crank to turn the motor over quite a few times once the belts/oil are changed prior to turning on the starter with ignition disconnected , only then start it up properly..

It may look tempting to help your neighbor remove the lawn ornament, but the cost will be more than just buying a running 924S. Here is an example:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=438303. 15 years=$$$$$$ in replacement engine, body and interior items. Hell, the speakers (4) and radio will cost $300 just to hear Amy Winehouse or Steppenwolf. It is hard to turn away from a project. I saw you also took a look at a 911 and 993 in earlier posts. In any case, good luck. John_AZ |

Thanks guys - good advice.
Out of curiosity, where is the fuel tank drain? I crawled under the car last night and couldn't located it. |

Even the handbrake was free and operating properly. Good tip on getting some oil flowing before starting her. Thanks. |

Actually, the body and interior are immaculate. I think I'm dealing with a mechanical reconditioning, which could easily exceed the value of the car of course. Thanks for keeping me honest. |

Bottom of tank: Use a locking pliers on the "S" hose, disconnect from fuel pump.
If you start with the tank and empty it, there is a check valve at the other end of the fuel pump that should be cleaned as well. This check valve keeps pressure in the lines to avoid a long starter crank(ing). If the dash fuel needle does not register, there is a cleaning procedure from our sponsors "Tech Section" http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_fuel_tank_sender_replace/911_fuel_tank_sender_replace.htm The fuel tanks also have a tendency to crack on top.
