A whole different car!

Brought home a nice '87 944S this weekend. Thought I'd post some photos and get reaction. Purchase price was $4200. Interior is in good shape (except for the usual cracks in the dash). Known issues... needs water pump and front end reseal (timing belt, probably), passenger window non-functional (button) and catalytic converter heat shield coming off. Someone put the wrong size tire on the rear wheels (same as front). There's going to be more problems but I think it was a good buy.

the front and rear tire sizes are the same from the factory on the 944 and 944s

215 60 15

the car looks very nice, what color is the interior? looks like its sunroof delete also, thats pretty cool. if thats the case its like a clone of my '84. when i did a track day at roebling road, some dude had an '86 turbo that was grey with black/tan interior, and sunroof delete... lots of mods too - too bad he was slow!

not a bad purchase for 4200, i hope you have a good shop that can do the timing belt, rollers, and water pump. you also may want to get the cam chain tensioner pads checked/replaced as those are a common issue on the 16 valvers.

to having 2

Hey Mike, I'll double check but the lable inside the fuel filler flap stated different tire sizes.

The interior is black with the grey cloth seat inserts. The seats look really good and all the controls are fully functional (except that passenger window). I was surprised about lack of sun roof but that's just one more thing to break (eventually). I'm looking for a replacement interior panel for the drivers side rear. Some knuckle-head cut the speaker grill out to replace a blown speaker I figure.

Copy that on the chain tensioner. I've seen the photos of what they look like when they go toast. Engine sounds tight though with excellent oil pressure.

I recently bought an S. Great cars. I was going to turn mine into a race car, but have started using it as my daily driver instead- It's much easier on gas than my truck, and is a hoot to drive.

Pretty rare to find one without a sunroof- I didn't think any were imported to the states after 1984. That's desireable for a racer. I may cut the roof welds off of mine and stick a roof from a 924 on it just to get rid of the sunroof when it's race car time.

$4200 is a good price for a nice S. Congrats.

I thought that for the late 944's (85.5 on) all had bigger tires on the rear, maybee 225/60, and 205/60 in the front? BUt i think for maximum handeling, you want the same size tires all around, if you have bigger in the back, might get some understeer. $.02
Also, if you need a pass. window switch, i have one for you, just replced my door panel yesterday and have a few extra if you need one.

Let me varify that's in-fact the problem with the window but if you'll hold one for me- I'll probably know by this weekend. Thanks.

yeah, sport with 16" wheels might've had different tire sizes, but with 15's they had 215 60 15's all around.

at least, my friends S does...

window and tailgate switches

Hi,
I've had problems with these switches, just as most people will have done by now, but have always found that dismantling them carefully then cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner and scraping off the burnt bits is all thats needed. My car is an '86 with 129000 miles so the switches have been used as much as most I would think.

Glade, if you need your S worked on in Tenn, I've got a connection that does it out of his house for cheap. He does only 944s and would help you out anyway possible. If you need parts or repair. He would have no problem doing your waterpump, seals and cam chain.
He's located in North Nashville. You won't find anyone cheaper and he will warranty his work.
Let me know if you are intrested and I'll send you his name and number.
Nice car and hope I'll see you on the road somewhere in Tenn.
He could tell you about tire sizes and what came on what and the recommendations.
