To buy or not to buy???
Hello 924 folks,
I have an opportunity to pick up a 1 owner 22,000 mile 924 with a really solid body and good interior as well. It hasn't run in about 4 years and before doing anything would do timing belt, water pump and roller. It'll need a cut/polish of the paint and maybe a respray on the nose. Otherwise it is excellent. I have no idea what retail price would be, but my intent is to buy, fix, sell. It is an 81. Looking at a $1k buy price. What say you? Thanks in advance, Tony

Sounds like a very good price bordering on a steal depending on condition.

Thanks, but I'm trying to figure out what the retail price range should be. Any suggestions would be helpful. Looks like decent runners are in the 3-4k range. It has to be VERY exceptional to get close to 9k. I don't know what would make it that exceptional. Just looking for what those in the know can share.
Thanks again, Tony

It's a 924, not a 924S. Not an interference engine (2.0L from a Volkswagen van). So you don't need to worry about timing belt/rollers like you do on the 944's and 924S.
Clean it up and put it on bring a trailer and you might get a decent price. Maybe 3-4k, maybe more?. 924Board.org :: Index is a better site for this information.

Thanks. I’ll check out that site too. Did not know about the non- interference part. Good to know.

If the service records confirm the mileage, everything is kept original including the paint, original radio, all factory options intact, and it’s as good as you describe $4-6k.
Take care though, if you find it needs work like suspension, bushes, clutch, torque tube bearings, etc., you can easily spend more than the car is worth and not have an evening or weekend to yourself for the next month. Folk don’t buy 924’s as a value proposition. |

Although this one sounds like it is better than usual, as a general rule, trying to flip 9424's for a profit is a bad strategy due to their low value. It would be a lot easier to justify if you were going to keep it and drive it for a while and get some pleasure out of it before you sell.
