Great Project car for the right guy EBAY

i thought I would add this one to the mix, if someone has the parts or a complete S or S2 motor sitting around, this is a great buy

$3800 is his rock bottom "starting bid"

He forgot to include a few shop hours and minor things.
"You are bidding on a 1897 Porsche 944S. This is a very clean car, in excellent shape, but the car does need an engine. I bought the car and drove it for a year and a half and it ran and drove beautifully. Then the timing chain, that runs between the cams over the head, snapped, causing a small part of the head to chip off. The head has been removed, and most of the engine dissasembled. I have priced a motor for the car at around $1800, depending on mileage. There is also a kit to put an LS1 into the car. That was my origional plan, but now I am trying to buy a house and this car just needs to go."

Man if you think that's a great project car I would hate to see what you call a good running car.

I would say it's not worth more then $1500 as it is, espcially with the wheels that are on it.

We picked up a barned 944s for a lot less in just as good or better condition then this one. I mean less than a third of this cost. Look around, S are usually under 5K running in decent shape.

that's a good deal compared to what i found on craigslist 86 N/A with a bad head gasket, front fender destroyed header panel damage and paint chipping 1,200.

There is only one more of these on ebay as far as i know, and the guy is asking like eleven thousand something for it, and it has higher mileage. Dont confuse this car with a regular 944, they have thier differences...
maybe that's why he wants close to 4k?

The car itself is very clean, If you have a head or can get one for cheap, all you need to do is rebuild, swap parts, If you had to pay someone to do the work, of course it would not be worth the money...I say under 1000 USD for parts and you have a clean, well running Porsche S. People think that a running car is a good one not if it is a POS and the person did not take care of it. The way Porsche parts work, the engine parts can be the cheapest to fix and least expensive, body work, interior, suspension etc can really add up,

In addition fixing the seats cost me 15 USD the work done at the shoe repair shop...oh I forgot 5 USD for Zip Ties

My engine and body (paint) were the best part of my S2...the brakes, suspension, AC, PS, interior, put me 3K in the whole...I am now 9K+ invested in a car I could only get 7K for...?

I think about this some times too, but then I look at my Mazda that I "invested" $20k in when I bought it and now 6 years later its probably worth about $4k. Newer cars depreciate and while our 944's may not depreciate much they do take money to keep on the road and running nice.

Pick your poison.

BTW the S in the ebay add looks good, the body looks solid, the interior with sport seats are great. I hate the sewer lids but thats just me. I think his price maybe a little high but a person with mechanical now how could buy the car put a new head on it and sell for profit.

Dont see how you can have a great running car if you can't even drive it down the driveway. How do you know the clutch or transmission is good? I see people describe their cars like this all the time on non-running cars. Amazes me.

As far as this one, Notice he didn't sell it? Power seat is mission the switch, seats are ripped, who knows how many miles on the tires, or what else is wrong with the engine. Engine is shot from a buyers perspective, so it should be treated as a parts car. $1500 tops. Even with a new head, valves, belts, etc, it still wouldn't be worth more then what he is asking. There is no way someone could fix the engine and still turn a profit....even if it sells.

"Real life" car prices are on Ebay, if you log in you can see what Porsche S cars have sold for in the last few month, know way you are getting 13K...it's like going on-line and looking at how much houses are listed for and say you could sell your house for as much as the guy had it listed for...here is the sad truth of what I have been tracking:
