Exclamation Please Help!

I dont know why, but this week is a ****y one.

First I think a have a fuel problem. When a start the engine the fuel consommation look high (like 14l/100km on the dash gauge) after a couple of minutes its more normal but on the highway at 5000rpm it smell et sometime I have some black smoke. I've but a injection cleaner last week but it only resolve the problem of smoke. It is the DME the problem?

second, yesterday when i drive home from work the dash voltmeter was showing 11V, at home, it was 10v. I let the engine turn and after 5 minutes every thing shut down it self. I presume its the alternator, but it like weird, an hour later a jump start the battery, and I had a 20minutes ride, the battery was drain down, so if it was the alternator...it sould not run, right?

finally, (I have this problem for a month) alway in the dash unit, beside the voltmeter, there a meter for the oil pressure, when the car running it always show at the top. Maybe its a sensor somewhere, it is the oil presure sender? what you think.

thanks

1. O2 sensor?
2. Alternator (take it in for free test)
3. This is normal - check your Owner's Manual

1) Excessive fuel consumption: check the O2 sensor and Fuel Pressure Regulator. Pull the vacuum line off the FPR and look for raw gas in the line. If raw gas is there, replace the FPR. Use a spare vacuum line on the FPR and suck through it to make sure it will hold a vacuum, if not, replace it.
2) As Rasta noted: have alternator tested, or simply replace it.
3) If the problem has only been for the last month, something may be wrong. Once the car is hot, the oil pressure generally varies from about the middle (2.5) at idle, to about the top (5) at RPMs over 2000 or so. If the sending unit is original, by all means, replace it (about $30). If it is new, like about a month ago when the problem started, try reversing the wires on the sending unit.

Not sure about the fuel consumptions or the grammar ?

In regards to the oil pressure...more than likely a bad connection. Check the wires and make sure they are clean...?

Greetings to a fellow Canuck!

You could, pull your spark plugs and have a look. Maybe an injector or two is stuck open. If they're all wet, then check the FPR as above.

For the charging issue you could also clean every ground connection you find, especially between the battery and ground. Adding a ground strap from the battery to the engine block helps, too.

I'd check and clean the wires to the oil pressure sender before I laid out the coin for a new one.

Beware of Rasta - he plays guitar in an immoral band.

I take it, it is and 85.5 & up car, by the volt meter on the dash.
Solve the problem one thing at time, first off all check your charging system with a volt meter never trust the volt meter on the dash it have been know to be off.
Whenever the Battery has a low voltage, every electrical thing in the car also get low voltage.
Good Luck
