Question dme swap or wires?

Hello all, I have a 1986 944 n/a. I bought it with the engine out of it and with a newly rebuilt engine from an 1983 944 which he sold with it setting on a stand ready to install.
I have done all the work putting this engine in but when it comes to the electrical wires and the dme I'm alittle lost. The dme in it now is for the 1986 but the engine is from a 1983 so the wiring harness doesn't quite match up. After doing much research for weeks and now its been about six months since I started the project I can not figure it out. Do I need to replace the wiring harness from the dme? Should I buy a dme for an 83?
I have the wiring harness for an 83 and was wondering if I could just plug it in to the 86's DME? Any help and info would be great. The car is complete and ready to go other than this set back.

Check out the link for pictures.

What I cant figure out is the plugs for the idle stabilizer, air flow meter, coil, and theres a little tip under the intake that is in the block.

You can't use the 86 dme. And some of the connectors will be different for things. Much better to just swap the harness. Will be a pain, but will be better in the end.

O.K. thanks, So your saying I would need to change the wiring harness and the DME right? So would I delete things as well? O2 sensor not on 83 harness, cruise control, and some others. Thanks

83's had cruise. that's controled by something completely different. Not sure about 02 sensor though.

I would use the dme and harness since your going to use the 83 engine.
