Pics of engine

Well, Im still not done, As some of you may have noticed I am looking for a external oil cooler, The 2 I have do not fit well, SO off to call Mocal. But I did take some pics of the engine installed only have one uploaded, I still have to install the radiator and hoses and the exhaust header, I havent done this just so I can have room to play with the oil cooler and lines. Also I didnt get a good pic of my ignition system, I will be posting more pics here soon.

Excellent work!

I also enjoyed the CarDomain site. The car looks great.

I have a shortcut for your cardomain.com page. The link above did not work for me.

I want to do stand alone ignition on my other car so bad. If I don't make it to 944 spec, I'll stick running in SCCA F-prepared which means it will get an MSD ignition module with launch control....

Did you have to change anything with the ECU when you changed compression? When I do my rebuild I may swap for the '88 pistons.

No the Stock ECU should be fine. AT the moment I do have the FR-wilk PP2 installed, But since its for a 1987 engine WIlk advised me not to run it with 1988 10.2 pistons due to the fact that it might have to much timing advance and to switch to the 1988 PP2. But Im not sure what Im gonna do yet. I might sell the chip and my Mafterburner http://www.lindseyracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LR&Category_Code=944MAFTERBURNER

And go with the Russell Berry maxtune or whatever its called.

Did you have to do any special modifications to install the adjustable cam gear?

Nope, I installed the LR adjustable cam gear the same way you would any other cam gear. They said you have to mod the cam cover but I didnt need to, It fits fine so far

I can't wait to hear your driving impressions of the engine. The engine I am putting in my car will have the Bursh header wrapped like yours with a straight through exhaust. I am toying with the idea of going with a webcam regrind as well.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did this "little" project put ya back? I have seen you on the boards and know you have your stuff squared away, so I'm sure this is a complete and will kick some butt! Also, why did you wrap the headers? I know with a turbo, it is good to keep the heat in the pipes to increase the turbo's power, but on a NA car, what does it do, just help the gases move through the exhaust more efficiently?

Wrapping or coating the header should keep engine bay temps lower, which can be a good thing in the long run. Maybe there are other benefits?

I'd like to get mine coated... mostly just so it doesn't look like a big rusty mess.

It is suppose to keep gas velocity high therefore increasing scavenging effect = horsepower

Well I have had the car since I was 16, Im now 25, SO almost 10 years. I dove it for about 7 of them then I had it apart for about 3 years, I never really kept trap of the cost, I just picked away at it. I know everyone says WHY WASTE MONEY ON A NA when you can get a turbo. I say SCREW THAT. I love my NA, I love playing with it. I love the exhaust note. The car has way to many memories and hard work/ blood into it to every get the right money back if I ever sold it. SO I made it my little project and whenever I got some extra cash for Xmass/birthdays/side jobs I would pick up a new part for the Porsche and over time it came to be what you see now. So I never really added it all up but all together Im sure its a retarded amount of money and time. But I do it for the fun of it and to make it drive the way I want it to, Not to hold resale value or anything like that.

I wrapped the header because as noted, It will reduce under hood temps and it also helps speed up the exhaust to help the scavanging effect thus making a tiny bit more HP (I hope). You can also coat them which is usually better then a wrap I just didnt want to wait for them to be shipped out then coated and then returned.

Just so you guys know, I dont think this is gonna big any BIG hp engine as I didnt build it for that, I just wanted to improve what was already there and maybe give it a little more kick in the pants on the way. Its really a big experiment, SO many people said you cant make HP in a NA, I said hey why not give it a shot, If it works and I make around 170-180hp I would be surprised and excited, But if it doesnt I still have a very cool 924S ( I think). Most of the stuff I have done is Bolt on or drop in/swap, I didnt want to go crazy and do alot of machine work like big bores and strokers and I didnt want the head Ported sooo much that I only made power in the way upper RPMs. I think my choices should make a very good balanced engine.

SpeedRacing- Yea Im super excited to get it done, Its just this Freaking stupid oil cooler is breaking my balls and I havent had a chance to go take measurments for the lines ect.... Anyway I know JM cams are expensive but they are a FRESH/NEW cam not a regrind ALSO Jm offers many more options then the WEBB cams do, I think WEBB only offers ONE grind for the 944, while JM has 3 drop in go cams and 2 or 3 that need mods I believe. Its something to look into, LEt me get mine running and I'LL tell you how it is before you go and buy. I like the exhaust setup, Just be ready for the Bursch header, The Paint job they do when they send it to you SUCKS!!! and burns off in 2 seconds then it gets rusty, Also I did have a slight fitment issue that I need to grind a little bracket under the car that it was hitting, but no big deal. Also The exhaust is gonna be loud, I am running the bursche header with cat sub pipe and a B&B catback, I like the sound, High in the RPM's it kinda sounds like a F1 car

I am curious about the MAF kit for the S2 application, I cant stand my bulky stock one. Do you know if it works?

Not sure, But I would think if it Works on a 8v NA then it should work on the 16v NA, Its the same type of AFM, You would just have to figure out the wiring and then tune.
