83 hesitation & stutter – solved!

My 83 ran perfectly before the 4th of July weekend. Monday afterwards it had a short stutter on the way to work. Lasts less than a second and picks up fine afterwards. In the time since then it has gotten worse. Tuesday night on the way home it really started to cut out. The tach does not drop. Seems like a fuel problem.

Fast forward to last night. Looking at the AFM preparing to try and test it out. Pulled the connector off and yikes! the connector pins and plug are covered with corrosion!

Cleaned them up a bit with some fine sand paper but that wasn’t very effective. Pulled the connector off and put it back on about 10 or 20 times to try and get a good connection. Good news – it worked. The car ran perfectly on the way to work this morning.

Anyway, just a little victory.

Question – what’s the best way to really clean this connector?

Thanks for the tip.

I use a PC board cleaner. I got it at Fry's Electronics. Radio Shack and others should have it.

And then put some dielectric grease in female side to keep moisture out.

CRC - QD Contact Cleaner. You can usually find it at one of the home centers.

Great! Why didn't I think of using contact cleaner to clean contacts!? Probably NAPA would have this stuff? I will track it down somewhere.

Thanks guys.

I guess the stuff John_AZ is better...
The stuff I use is "Contact Cleaner"
The stuff John uses is "SUPER Contact Cleaner"
