rebuild

Help guys!

I just removed my oil pump and find that the crank has been driving into the back of the oil pump and has worn rings into the back of the pump.

Do we have a shim or something that deals with end play on the crank that will alleviate this problem?

Has anyone else found this in their engine?

AFAIK the thrust bearing on the crank is about the only way to really control endplay. That probably requires much more work than you were planning on though unless you pull the engine.

Without actually seeing a picture, it sounds like the car was driven with a loose crank bolt at some point, but, well, I haven't seen a picture...

It can happen if the wrong woodruff key was inserted prior. Mines a stub nose crank w/ no power steering, and the woodruff key is different from the later cars. The later cars are quarter moon shape. No B/S, saw both today. Change happened mid 83.
