Question about Brake Upgrade
Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading my brakes on my 1988 n/a. So far, I have 16" wheels Purchased a front set of spindles and hubs from a 1994 968 Purchased a set - front & rear of 968 calipers My questions: 1) Are the rear calipers a direct fit? 2) I know the front calipers require the upgraded spindles but is the roter any different (I hope not as I recently spent $500 on new rotors. 3) Are there any issues with the brake lines fitting (i.e., different length needed for different calipers). 4) any reccomendation on brake pads - this is basically for street use only. I currently have slotted rotors and metal-master pads. I'm not super happy with the pads as they squeek all the time. They have the anti-vibration pads on them but I still get a fair amount of squeel - I never had this problem with my previous Porsch factory pads. I'm wondering if having slotted rotors has anything to do with it - maybe collecting barke dust? Thanks in advance for any advice..............................Vern |
1) Rear calipers are a direct fit. You need a $6 spacer from Porsche, 2x per caliper. Said spacer is the same thing as a 1/2 inch washer available at any hardware store for 15 cents.
2) N/A and 951/968 rotors are different. So yes you need to buy new ones, front and rear. 3) Brake lines in the front fit no problem. The rear calipers require a little bending of the hardline, but nothing to crazy. 4) Street pads, Porterfield R4S. Great street pad, no noise and little dust in my experience. |
Thanks! Great info.

One more question. My existing Rotors are for a 1988 late offset car. Will these work on a 1986 early offset car?
Thanks....................Vern |
No, they are different parts.
