Electrical Gurus, Click here.

so... how do i start? when it rains or when i wash my car, the area that the battery sits in fills with water. opposite side also.

it eventually evaporates or drips out. Often if it sits over night, i need to jump the battery.

so with that being said... my passenger side marker lights and tail lights do not work.
i cant seem to get my dome light to activate either.

where do i start with this? i assume ground points. any suggestion on this would be great. oh and i have the mechanic skills of a snow cone.

The drains are clogged. There are two ports that are not obvious. I bet they need cleaning out, take a coat hanger or screwdriver and dig them out.

As for the electrical, check all the fuses, ground points, bulbs. All the easy stuff.

Check the fuse for the dome light. It also controls the trunk light, the cigarette lighter and the dash clock. The switch for the dome and trunk is located on the passenger hatch shock. When open, there's a metal pin that contacts the hatch shock and lights the lights. The passenger marker is wired beneath the trunk carpet and is pretty easily accesible. There's a connector that, in my car, has corroded terminals on it. It's encapsulted in a cylindrical white tube near the taillights. Just follow the wires. Clean the contacts on both the marker and the connector.

As for the battery pan, check the drain plugs. There are yellow tubes running down both sides that should drain behind the wheels. Probably clogged with dirt, grime, rat's nests, puzzle pieces. It happens. SEriously. I had puzzle pieces in there from a mouse's nest.

good info. now i need a shade tree. its 10:00am, 89 degrees and VERY humid.

Dome lights work. so does the cig lighter. clock does not work. to turn the domes on, i have to manually hit the switch. so im going to clean the door pins.... again.

check the drains that 944boy is talking about, they can be hard to see if you dont know they are there, they are at the firewall and have a rubber flap on them, ive seen people run wires thru them for stereos! one on each side

Do these cars have L and R fuses by chance like the old VW's? Im wondering if its just a fuse.

hpservertech 08-02-2008 04:52 PM

Doesn't hurt to check the fuses. It's always the first place to check. heck, checking all of them only takes about 10 minutes.

firefighter7128 08-02-2008 06:28 PM

all fuses are ok. all bulbs apear ok. im stuck.

hpservertech 08-02-2008 06:46 PM

yep, did 6 of the 7 this morning after the origional posting. i hate to say it, but i may need to take her in to ozark imports or something. the window isnt a big issue, but this is my only car and i have to drive at night. still cant find the drains.

hpservertech 08-02-2008 07:17 PM

Take the battery out of the car. Take a shop vac to the battery well. It's hard to see them on a dark painted car.

its late now and i do a live radio show at 9am. i'll try it after that and see what happens.
