How often do you add oil to your 944?

Hello all,
I know this will vary by model, driving style, mechanical condition etc. but I was wondering how often you guys add oil to your cars. Is there a factory tolerance of any sort on how much the car will burn? Just curious.

The factory manual shows "tolerable" oil consumption to be 1 liter per 1000km (up to 1.5). I have seen several cars where this holds true to. However, I personally have never experienced any noticeable consumption by my '44.

I tend to check mine and top off if necessary for the first week after a change. I've been checking since I changed it about 2 months ago - I've lost nothing and it's a DD.

My '87 n/a burned about 1 quart ever 3500 miles or so. That was with alot of high RPM track stuff aswell as daily driver. I would say over half of that loss was due to leaks from the oil fill tube o-rings and the front crank seal. After replacing all of those seals the loss was cut down quite a bit.

My 951 if anything is losing some oil past the turbo seals. I would say less than 1/4 a quart after 3500 miles.

I agree with Nick, Wipeout and Jon, I don't loose much if at all. I'm not leaking and use 100% synthetic oil. I don't add any between oil changes.

Maybe a 1/2 to 1 quart between oil changes (3000 miles).

No leak from my 84 DD either, thankfully. Well, oil at least.

92 968 - I use about 1/2 quart over 400 miles of on-track driving and none getting there or back.

I put only about 2000 miles a year on my car but it never leaks nor consumes any when I am driving it during the summer. The front main seal leaks only when I do not drive it for long periods. Taking it out for a drive once a week keeps it from ever dripping any.

I drive my car almost every day, not far though. It has 214,000 miles on it, but was well maintained. I change the oil every ~3000 miles, and I use natural 10w/40 oil. I check it usually every other week, and on average I add maybe 1/4 Qt of oil between changes. Using some oil is not necessarily a bad thing though. If you don't have to add a huge amount between changes and oil isn't leaking into other systems, then its all good. My mom's 2002 Jetta uses about 2 Qt every 5000 miles, that thing goes through oil. YMMV
