944 85.5 + Gauge Modification...let me see yours

Here is my modification to my gauge cluster...I was overall disappointed in the quality of the gauge faces (I wont name names), however I found a happy medium with the side gauges being red and the middles black...I also installed LED bulbs for the gauge cluster lighting (I think they are a little dim) but I did notice it takes them a few minutes to get to full strength. Sorry the pic sucks, put the garage is dark and the outside there is too much reflection

I like the different colors.

I wish I could get my 83 to actually look nice.

Right now I only have a tach and a temp. gauge light. the rest are not working...

Wow, thanks for posting that pic. I have been thinking about going to the red gauges, and this has made my mind up for me. I don't like it at all. Thanks for doing all the work so I didn't have to do it twice on mine.

I had red gages in my 86 911 and was never really happy with them.

Perhaps it had something to do with how dim the dash lights were (common problem in the 911), but it was always somewhat difficult to read them. The original black background with white/light markers and numbers seems to allow for a quick glance, as opposed to having to actually take your eyes off the road for a "concentrated" second or two, IMHO.

No mater what I, or anyone else thinks about them, if you like them that is all that matters. I think you did a great job on them. And I know what a PITA it is to do.

I like 'em. I wouldn't do it to mine, not because of the looks, but because it's such a pita. That and I have enough other crap I need to fix first.

You're not the first person on this board to be dissatisied with the quality of replacement guage faces.

There is a Guards red turbo-look 911 for sale in the classifieds forum right now that has an all red interior with red gauges. It looks OK in my opinion.

I have always liked the white faces. I used a center piece from a 924 to get rid of all the silver trim. When mine were apart I resprayed the inside w/ chrome paint and replaced all the bulbs / huge difference.

Got a choice set of white face dials on ebay (they custom made a euro spec set with
km/h) For lighting I designed and built a tri-colour LED setup. At the flick of a switch you get red, blue or green.
