Hello again, long time

Watcha guys think, if my vw sells tomorrow, this could be my new baby. The exact same year and color as my old one. timing belt and waterpump are long overdue, 50,000 miles in fact, but shes all OG, 170,000 miles, broken speedo, but its supposedly a daily driver, josh

Seems a little steep.

What options does it have?

jkrustchinsky 08-15-2008 09:03 PM

i havnt seen it yet so im unsure of the options, ive watched the car for the last six months slowly trickle down in price on craigslist. It started out at like 6500, and i remeber telling my dad hes on crack when i saw it. Ive been talking to him for the last week, i want it so bad its not even funny, heres the ad

i think some of you remember how distraught i was when my other 944 kept breaking down, and i was forced to sell cause i needed to get to work

From what I can see, it looks like a nice car. Looking at the lines in the front, everything's even, no evidence of accidents (and bad fitting panels - the gaps on either side of the hood are equal, as are the gaps beside the lights ). Looks like it might have tinted windows, which is nice.

If the car is really as clean as it looks and the interior is okay, and there are no serious problems with the engine, $2,500 would be an okay price around here (although prices in the Seattle metro area may not be typical of he rest of the country).

I'd ask the guy if I could do a compression check - that'd give you an idea how healthy the engine is. What kind of oil pressure? How about oil leaks?

I bought her today, shes an amazing shape, no accident history, interior is ALL OG, only a few splits in the seats at the seams, so i can have it restictched. The underbelly pan is still there, this car is untouched!!!!

and i i got the guy down to 2400!!!! damn im good

ill take a bunch of pics later, oil pressure is at the around the 3 bar when idle at warm, only things that dont work are the speedo and the sunroof.

oh yeah and it does have a little problem, when in neutral or the clutch is engaged, if you let off the gas to let the car return to idle, the idle goes low and it stumbled but returns isntantly to 850 rpm, i asked him and he said its done that for years but its never cut off on him, im thinking the idle stabilizer needs to be cleaned out. I have enough cash left over to do the timing belts and waterpump and buy the new arrnworx tool. Josh

it depends on the year i believe but the stumble is related to the year and the DME fuel cut off at above 2500 RPM, this could be adjusted via throttle position adjustment or changing the chip in the DME

Good one!

A throttle stop adjustment will take care of the stumble. Make sure you do the belts NOW. If I understand your post, 50,000 miles on the timing belts is a long time.

I ordered everything today, belts, rollers, waterpump, front engine seals, balance races, thermostat, and ill be getting a new timinbelt tensioning tool in a few days. While ive got it all torn down ill clean out the idle stabilizer and all my grounds.

Josh
