Lets talk Door Window Electrical

ok, since i have bought this car, i have been unable to roll the pass side window.
I am in the works of trying to narrow down the problem and beleive i found that the motor is bad. i just need a 2nd opinion.

I have already ruled out the switch by taking the working switch and using it on the pass side sockets. Didnt work.

I tested the female side of the socket on the pass side window control and found that 2 of the 5 ports are hot. I dont know if that is standard, but assume so.

I have 2 jumper wires but have not attempted to "hot wire" the female socket yet to see if the window will go down.

Does anyone have a knowledge of what of the 5 wires coming off the pass side control are which? Input?

Why not just jumper the motor with a battery from a cordless drill?

Hey, before you spend $$ on a new motor, understand that BOTH the Driver's side and Passenger's side swtiches need to be in the circuit and working properly for the window to work - They are in series.

If they are both good and things still don't work, then worry about your motor.

Good luck,

Keith

Both the driver's side switch for the passenger window and the passenger side switch for the passenger window must be working for the passenger window to go up/down. If you clean both switches its a good bet it will work, if not, you've eliminated the switches as a variable in your problem.

Go ahead and take the door panel off. It's not that difficult. I had problems like yours but with the additional factor of a broken multi-connector on the passenger switch. I couldn't tell if it was pinned correctly. After I pulled the door panel I found several other issues. One of the previous owners had installed an early 944 window motor, the wires had been extended to reach the incorrectly positioned connector on that motor. That extension had someway been cut (probably by the lift mechanism) and the exposed ends of the wire were shorting out on the door frame. To replace the motor you will have to pull the lift mechanism out of the door. Really not that hard. Just clamp the window in raised position with padded wood clamp and take the screws out that secure the lift mechanism to the door and the window track. Fold it up and slid it out of the door. To be completely sure I not only replaced the motor but also the passenger switch and spliced a good multi-connector on the harness. Everything works great and I'm glad I took care of everything at once.
