A 944 is not necessary a good car to begin wrenching on if you have no experience, but with patience you should do ok.

What repair are you attempting? Do you need to replace the Damper? or is there something else your are needing to do.

No matter what repair you are attempting, you will need to remove the trans.

Please provide more information of what you are attempting to accomplish so we do not lead you into more work than is necessary.

You should start by checking out clarks-garage.com and general perusing of the 944 specific forums that are out there, you can learn a lot by searching the forums.

There's 4 bolts that are easy, and on automatics there is a c clip on the end of the driveshaft on the engine dude if the damper that must be removed to pull the tube back. You don't really need to put the clip back on though.

Four bolts to loosen the TT from the bellhousing is correct, but.....

you must first remove starter, the 10 bolts holding the damper/ring gear assembly from the flywheel, and don't forget to remove the ref/speed sensor block.

Remove the transmission, then remove the four bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine so you can pull the TT/bellhousing back far enough to reach between the damper and flywheel to remove the clip that holds the TT shaft in place.

This of course is assuming that you have already removed the exhaust and disconnected the trans cooling lines, I am sure I am missing something along the way.

To totally remove the TT you will also need to disconnect the rear brake lines and lower the rear torsion bar suspension unit to allow the TT to come down far enough to clear the spare tire well.

Not hard at all, definitely intimidating if you are not experienced with turning wrenches.

My best suggestion, download the shop manuals for your car and study up before you do anything, there are many little thing that if you do it wrong can cost you dearly.
