Door locks

My car has manual door locks and the driver side will only lock with they key..

is there a way to convert it to power door locks or to just remove the piece that keeps it from locking without the key?

Put in an aftermarket keyless entry, or have someone put one in for you.

Run less then $200 installed.

Call around to local radio installers.

it's a pretty simple job, except for getting the actuators lined up and set correctly. It's best left to someone with experience.

Otherwise, get one off of evilbay.

You might consider just finding the parts from someone parting an +85.5 car that had electric locks and buy all the brackets and hardware. I don't think the early door handles have the correct hardware and mechanisms to make a simple aftermarket conversion. It can be done though but that might be best left to a shop that specializes in alarm installations.

You would also have to get the wiring, central control box & switch. Tried this route, not worth it. by the time your done you still dont have keyless entry, just electric locks.

There are no issues with putting actuators in an early car, but it's still better left up to the experts.

Thanks, I was always looking for a way to do that on my old 83 but gave up after comparing the mechanisms to my 86's with Central Locking. I've already converted both of my 951's to keyless entry with aftermarket alarms and like it except when I have to disconnect the battery and then wake the dead when I reconnect .

does this seem like it would solve the problem?

power locks, keyless entry, and an alarm

All new aftermarket alarms have keyless entry.
