had enough!!!! part out or sell?
 

Driving home from work the car stalled after pulling over it spun like a broken timing belt(replace 4 months ago) i've had enough. last time replacing the head then bad dme the car was down for about 2 months. was having an oil psi proble (took 30 seconds to build) bottom line is i'm done should i part it out or sell it outright?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1221187854.jpg

I'd sell it whole. A racer should give you some decent money for it since it's a sunroof delete.

I would say whole. You could get more for it in parts. The problem is that you would have to piece it out and that can take a lot of time and energy. Besides, it is a semi-classic and we want as many of them out there as possible. These cars go through fits and phazes where everything seems to go bad. I would give it some time to get over your understandable initial reaction and then give a quick diagnosis. If you did the belts 4 months ago, They should not have let go. At least pull the upper cover and check if the marks align and if the belts are even there. It will take you all of a half hour and costs little.

I would be interested, if nothing else for the challenge, but wrong coast. In any event it deserves a good talking to. All that work and it still doesn't know who is boss.

I'd love to make a spec car out of that, but I got a feeling it will not be in my budget right now. Always the wrong time for me :(

i would buy a used head and slapit on, then sell it, you should get alot more for it.

invest $300 into it and you should get back an extra $1000

all the bolts are free from doing it recently, i have a head and head gasket and timing belt for $250 shipped, slap it on and sell it!

many944s has a head swap program now where you send him your old head and you get back a refurbished head in exchange.

f you don't want to deal with that any longer you should just sell as is and let the person know there are good heads available with exchange.

+1 on fixing the head/timing belt, if that is the problem. you won't get anything out of it with that damage, but will get a decent price if it is running.

Yea, the vehicle running is worth so much more, espicially since you can show reciepts and properly document it all. Give it time to "rest" in the back yard under a tarp until YOU feel like working on it.

why is there so much space between the front wheels and the wheel-well? it looks like the car doesn't have an engine in it, in that photo, or it is partially jacked up....

+1, I would certainly fix it as well. Selling it broken will get you a few hundred bucks:confused:

if you were local, i'd strongly suggest for you to sell it whole without fixing ;) the body is great compared to mine!

QFT. Looks rust free; some tweak-happy so and so would pay you more for the body than you'll get over a loooooooooooooooong time getting rid of the parts (besides; it sounds like you're tired of hassles caused by your car).

If you can fix it, it'd be worth so much more. Anyone buying a 24-25 year old car will know it won't be perfect, but if it runs, moves and doesn't blow a smokescreen going down the road, you'll get oodles more money than you would get from a parked "clunker".

Sidenote and suggestion: when I say this, every carguy I talk to cringes. If the powertrain proves too expensive and too much of a hassle to maintain, I have no problems ripping the guts out of my little silver money eater and putting in new. From engine to axle, I know there are new parts out there that can be put in my 924S (and get it running the same or a little better) and not shoehorn them in. And if we're really honest with each other, a 2-month old performance engine from anyone is going to have better performance and fuel economy than most 20 year old Porsche engines that've been mistreated by a 16-year old (or 40-year old midlife crisis survivor) with a need fo speed.

My point is that you don't have to buy the hassles of an OEM Porsche part to fix your car and get it running supersweet. In fact, deciding to modernize by "converting" the powertrain can actually--if done right--improve performance while decreasing your bills over time.

Will the hard core Porsche guys thumb their noses at me if I did this? Probably. But I didn't buy this car to please them. I bought it to please me.

Food for thought. Your post seemed...written in the grip of anger and frustration. I'd hate to see anyone sell this car--parted or whole--in a fit and realize later that they gave up something they didn't want to.

its sitting on stands because when i took it off of the tow truck i was frustrated and didnt feel like getting out my blocks of wood and jack.

i think i am going to sell it whole. one of the problems is because of oil pressure. start it up cold takes a few second to build then i have plenty of pressure. i pulled the relief cartridge out and cleaned it (didn't see anything wrong) but then the car was fine for about 3 weeks. happened again so i flushed the engine and it was fine again for about a month. then started again 3 days before she went. just dont want to fix it and then still get next to nothing for the car. and i dont have the time to pull the eng. and rebuild it.

wow 800 may be in the cards for me after all. Please get me more info/pics about the car. I am really really interested and have been wanting another 944 for a really long time. The fact it doesn't have a sunroof is perfect for what I want. I'd really like to make a track/street car that runs 944spec or 944 cup.

I also have a soft spot for the pre 85.5 dash/interior.

I would be interested also. Please send me whatever information you can provide. I am looking for another winter project :)
