speed and ref sensor wiring question??? Gotta make sure
Well, in the never ending job of trying to fix the electrical problems with my car. I found the 2 connectors for the Speed and referance sensor, the ones at the back of the block, and the ends that came off the sensors and go into the harness, well the black plug from that end was gone. Someone pushed the pins into the connector and RTVd the connectors together. Well that is not the problem! I was trying to find the correct wires to do some resistance checks and noticed that the ground wires are in the correct places, but the black wire and yellow wire are crossed. Harnes black goes to sensor yellow etc. My question is should the wires be color coded? I have had starting issues from the time I have had my car, a hard start, but will run. Should the wires be yellow to yellow, like I think they should???? Just want to make sure, I am going to hard wire the lines together due to this and corrosion found in the lines as well. They way I look at it, they should the be the same color to color?? Thanks for any help.

It shouldn't really matter, the terminals are simply either side of a coil, but I have seen weirder things on these cars! According to the FSM, here is the pinout:
EDIT: this is for the ref sensor Pin 1 should go to Yellow Pin 2 should go to black Pin 3 should be ground for the speed sensor it shows Pin 1 black Pin 2 yellow Pin 3 ground Hope it helps! -Nick |
