heater problems
I have had a hell of a time with my heater on my '87 porsche 924s. I thought at first that it was the common problem of a broken heater valve, but after diving under the hood and digging around for thirty minutes i have found that the valve has been bypassed, as i had planed to do. i don't have any more ideas of what could be wrong. but when it turns on it blows out cold air. I don't really know what position the slides must be in for the heater to work either. please help its getting down to 27 during the day where i live. :confused:
Also where the coolant comes out of the engine and toward the vale there is two vacuum line hookups that are empty is this right? |
The valve has been bypassed or the heater is bypassed? Usually when these cars have problems with the heat, it is full on, which leads to the PO's redirecting the water back into the engine taking the heater core out of the equation. If that is not it' I suspect that the heater core could be clogged. If that is the case you can try to clear it with a water hose and or compressed air.
The sliders... the bottom one is heat control, left is cold, right is hot, this manually moves the cable which goes to the heater valve you mentioned. The two sliders above are for air direction, left slider when moved to the left is to the feet, the right slider when moved to the right is air to the windshield, to the center is closed for both. Not sure on the vacuum lines. |
the valve is just taken out and the hoses are hooked together. Another possibility I thought might be air in the rad. I've tried to vent the damn thing but all I get out of the vent is steam after about 25 miN. Help with bleeding?0

The best way I have found is to raise the front of the car and start pouring. It takes awhile to get all the air out of the system.
