Temp. gauge reading sanity check please.

I'm not even sure I have a problem. Gauge likes the top 1/3 of the center part of the scale on the gauge. It's never gotten into the top third of the....

Sheesh - here's a graphic - my needle move up steadily from cold. When warm, it stays in the blue range. It's never gotten into the top 1/3rd though.

Drv. side fan seems to be on all the time on low speed (it turns 1-2 min. after shutdown). Sometimes when I sit idling, it kicks to high speed and the pass. fan then kicks in at high speed.

Is this in the normal range?

its running a little warm, if my needle isnt hovering around the first line or below it, i know i have something to tweak.

try picking out all of the rocks and crap from your a/c condensor, and combing the fins. It makes a big difference. If that doesnt work, you could try flushing your cooling system. clarks-garage.com has all of the instructions for flushing and venting.

if that doesnt work I wouldnt be too concerned.
use that mark as a baseline, if it goes higher ten be concerned.
do the flush and fill and try a bottle of water wetter , it does good

Any have a flush they recommend? Heavy duty?

i don't like to use flush. however, prestone makes a good product.

If you use a HD Prestone flush or similiar, you may get a leaky radiator by the plastic to metal seam. If you are fortunate not to have this happen, you will get leaks at some of the hose clamps. The HD flush eats at the corrosion under the hoses (by many clamps) and you will see drips form. The solution will be to drain coolant again, unclamp each hose and clean the corrosion off with a wire brush or Dremel (sp) type hand tool.

The point may moot. I removed the condenser (a/c was non-functional anyway) to see if the cooling improved. It didn't. In fact it seems to be just a bit warmer - getting close to the upper field - despite the fact the the ambient temps have been less.

With the condenser off, I had a clear view of the radiator, so this afternoon, I checked the temp with an infrared thermometer in a couple of places on the core from the front. It was 50-60......fahrenheit. :confused:

Later in the evening after an hour long drive, I checked the temps again. at the hoses. Top was 140ish. Lower hose was in the 140's at the pump, but 60 at the rad. I put my hand on front the rad. and it was cool all over. :(

Ambient temp here has been in the upper 60's to 40's in the evening, but I can't imagine the rad. cooled down that fast.

Anybody ever use the SPI radiators from Autozone. I hate the idea of using AZ for a rad. for a Porsche, but I checked the Spectra Premium Industries website and they seem like a quality outfit. They also list the same one for NA as Turbo, so I suspect that the NA may be of Turbo capacity as it's probably easier for them to just produce one. AZ want's $329.

I welcome any thoughts ya'll might have on this.

My 924S doesn't have aircon, or a second electric fan. Cruising down the highway at 3800-4000rpm the needle is right where you depict it. The needle drops to the middle bar a minute or two after slowing down, assisted by the fan coming on.It has always behaved like this since new.

Forgot to add, even running down the Autobahn at 5-5700 rpm the temp needle behaved the same.
