Anyone have a windshield!?
So, I bought a windshield in a frame from a guy who chopped up a car, i tried a little bit to remove it myself, but found it difficult and took several peoples advice and hired a pro to remove it and install it in my car. Needless to say the professional broke it
. I understand that was a risk, but what really aggravates me is that i asked the guy to remove the broken one from my car first so he would be familiar with how it came out, just in case there was something he wasn't aware of. His response: I've been doing this for 20 years! I just don't get it, why so unwilling to do a simple thing like take the broken one out first, they both have to come out!anyway now i need a windshield and I can't afford a new one from porsche, anyone know where i might find one? thx

used windshields are not a good idea unless you happen to get lucky and get one that was recently installed
IF you manage to get one of those, and IF you manage to get somebody to remove it without chipping it, and IF you then manage to get somebody to install it without breaking it, you can take yourself right down and buy a lottery ticket, because you are DUE a used windshield will be full of tiny marks that will refract light coming through - this makes for glare - you will be stunned at how much better life is with a new one most insurance policies provide for windshield repair - the deductible is likely less than the cost of a new one |

The late windshields are much more expensive than the early ones. I am not sure if it just because of the antenna in them or if it is something else. I have heard of early windshields for about 250$, but I hear people paying $450+ for late ones.

Keep in mind that for the late cars there are 4 different windshields, depending upon the options. Here is what I understand they are, but some of this could be incorrect.
1) Without internal antenna, no airbag 2) With Internal antenna, no airbag 3) Without internal antenna, airbag (PAAS film is added) 4) With internal antenna, airbag (PAAS film is added) Yours is most likely #4, which I believe is the most expensive. They are only available from Porsche new, and the OEM glass goes for ~$650. I had mine done recently through insurance and it was just over $900 cost to them. Cheers, Keith

Will work for parts

I have two windshields. One that was a recent replacement that is less than a year old and out of the car. However this was promised as a non antenna late blank and it is an early blank. There is only a 1/2" of difference an a good layer of windshield adhesive will seal it up.
I do also have a decent antenna windshield from an 87' turbo. It is still installed but I bet with some patience and the right tools I can get it out un-damaged. However, I would only do that If I had a Lexan replacement. So if anybody has a lexan windshield I will trade for it! The early blank I paid $250 installed for it, I didn't care for the antenna so that didn't matter to me. If you get non-antenna glass I also have some fuba-style antennas with every hook-up known to man to replace the built in one. However I am not in NY anymore so shipping on glass can get expensive.

I just parted a car with a windshield that was recently replaced. It has a rubber film in between the two layers of glass, but it does not have internal antenna.
I pulled it out of the car without any issue. The windshield is in perfect condition.

a four leafed clover for sure - a used windshield without years of road use and abuse is a rarity and should be snatched up quickly
