Porsche Crest 944 crank sensor

hey people,

so i just bought a 1985 944, the car doesnt run, the lady i bought it from says it ran fine and one day she came back to turn it on and it just wouldnt start... the engine still turns over but theres no spark... is it the crank sensor? how much would one cost plus labor? or is it just a piece i can put in myself? with an ohmz meter how would i test it?

Pelican has the reference sensor for $163 - which is kinda high. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_FULinj_pg2.htm#item5

The best deal I've seen is at Lindsey Racing - $72.95 for a generic Bosch sensor! (which is exactly the same as the OEM Porsche part) - http://www.lindseyracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LR&Product_Code=944-606-115-00&Category_Code=944ELECTRICAL

The speed and reference sensors are both the same.

Used, I've bought them for as little as $25 (from parts cars).

Caleb! It could be a simple matter as a Bad DME-relay e.g. a burnt contact in it. If the relay contacts doesenīt let current go through them you will NOT have the DME computer energized and the ignition will NOT work. So, try to change the DME-relay first, itīs on the second place from left on the upper relay row if 1985 is like my 1984. The relay is cheaper than sensors and you will need one anyway as a spare. Good luck!
And Caleb, welcome to this GREAT board!
