Water pump - rebuilt or new?
Hi guys - the next major job on the 1987 924S that slept for 15 years is the timing belt. From the various forum postings and some search it appears that now is the time to do the water pump as well.
Do you folks recommend a new or rebuilt pump? Any specific pump brand / unit you would recommend? |

Hi, I ran a rebuilt water pump with no problems but some will say to only use a new one. In either case make sure that you get one with the ramp provision as the early ones did not have this feature. I believe that your car already has the later type though.

My personal opinion is to use a new factory pump. It is the most expensive solution, but I have had a factory rebuilt fail, a new Laso leak, and another Laso with the clip location in the old location which screws up which seal you need. This was a PITA to get right.
Call Hennessey, Park Place or Sunset Porsche for good prices on new factory pumps. Your car, your call.
