Ring and pinions for the 944

Are there any companies that sell different final drive gears for a plain old 944.

I am trying to drop the RPM some at highway speed on a project of mine.
This obviously would require a higher gear (lower numerically)

Does anyone know of any options.

The turbo transmission has higher gearing I think. There's also bigger tires. I don't think there are any regular production replacement gearsets for the 944 box that change the ratios.

I gained ~200 rpm in 5th at around 65 mph when I went from a 195/60/15 to a 205/55/15 in the rear. It would most certainly work the other way for your aplication.

I am running a 275/40/17 now and I can't go much bigger.

If my math is correct then that would put me at 2958RPM at 70MPH

I would love it if I could get that down to around 2000-2300RPM.

The 951 gears would get me down to 2567 which I could probably live with.

Are the gears interchangeable with the standard 944 boxes?

Anyone have any busted 951 transmissions they would like to sell so I can yank the gears out?

What about 6th gear in a 968 transmission? I don't know if it would bolt up to a 944 driveshaft , though.

If I had to guess I would say probably not.

I would probably be better off just buying a 6 speed.

I suppose I will just live with the revs for now.

Incase people don't know I am talking about my V8 Rabbit project.

I figured in such a light car (2200lbs) that I would not need low gears to get moving so I would swap them out for a little lower revs on the highway to save some bucks on gas as well as wear and tear.

I also would like to avoid having the turbos spooling up too much on the highway unless I want them to and I fear that if the engine is approaching 3000RPM then they may be starting to spool up.

I guess I won't know that until it is up and running so i will just worry about that then.
