that is the worst reason to part out a car i have ever heard, apart from saying that the resale value sucks right now so you might as well part it to make more money...

what i'm really trying to say is don't destroy a perfectly good project car for someone else just because you don't want to deal with it...i've held on to my 924S for 2 years waiting to save up the money to fix the body and replace the oil pump...never once considered parting the car out, even though i could make a lot of money doing so because of the near perfect interior the car has, and the very nice body other than the dent in the back end.

my best advice would be to drive one of these cars that's extremely well sorted out, and then you might get the bug to fix the one you have. These cars can take it out of you quickly, but the rewards are great when you take care of them and show them the love.

Parting a car won't get you as much as you think it will as you will never be able to sell it all of completely like that. Put the whole thing up for sale whole here and someone will take it off your hands.

Now there's a deal. You know parting it out that's all you're going to make anyway and then there's the 300 hours labor dealing with all that.

I've parted a few 944s.

-You need space- I had the cars in a warehouse, with lots of space around each car.

-You need time- Time to remove parts, time to package parts, time to ship parts.

-You need tools- Far more than what is required to install struts.

-You need help- Engines, trannys, suspension sub-frames, are heavy.

-You need to get rid of what's left- Getting rid of a tub is legally harder than it used to be.

Can you make money? Sure. But building shipping crates gets old. A few 944 guys in the area came right to my warehouse and took what they needed. Since there are a few of us racing 944s, it was nice to have a stash of parts, but in the end, I quit parting 944s. I actually gave one complete car away just to empty out the last of the space.

It's worse if you are trying to part out a car at home. Neighbors don't like looking at junk cars under tarps. Family doesn't like not using the garage because its being used as a wrecking yard.

It was fun for a while, but financially, I'm better off getting rid of the cars and renting out the warehouse space.
