Best 944/951 Repair Manual
I am not new to the Porsche as I have owned quiet a few...3 911's and a 914. I now recently bought a 1986 944 turbo and wondering which repair manual breaks the 944 Turbo/951 down the best. I have used both Chilton and Clymer in the past and both have their ups and downs. Just wondering which one I should pick up as I build this is to a Street/track car project. Thanks in advance.

Maybe to be more specific, Is there anyone that makes a 944 Turbo only manual?

Clark's has most of the big projects covered.
The factory manuals are pretty nice IMO if you can get them (or, just the engine one. I have never seen the other parts of the manual for body/interior etc.)

The factory manuals are pretty detailed and can be bought on CD, or found online for free if you're so inclined. They have a whole separate volume dedicated to the turbo engine. Clarks garage is good for most things you'll usually come across, and then there's the combination of everyone on the forum that's been through just about everything.

Since this link is in a sticky on the turbo board, it must not be taboo anymore. You can download the factory service manuals for free at this site: http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

... The legal part of that is that you need to own the manuals before hand to legally download them.
Just for disclaimer. We wouldn't want our host to get into any trouble.

I like the real hard copy FSM just for the legible electrical schematics alone. I bought the 6-volume set with Turbo supplement for $125 from Sunset Porsche online. I also have the CD version but it's a bit cumbersome to use sometimes.

All above suggestions are good. Sometimes you can find the factory manuals on ebay. The are very expensive purchased new.

The factory turbo manual is pretty good. The Hayne's manual is not turbo specific and even then its not the best for the n/a cars. In my opinion you cannot beat a combination of Clarks-Garage and the Rennlist 951 forum. There is alot of 'crap' to wade through on the Rennlist 951 forum, but the experience of some of the people is enough to tackle any question you can think of. Just remember to take some things that are said there with a grain of salt, there are alot of people who think they know what there talking about also...

I bought the genuine factory service manuals from Sunset Porsche for $120 (Includes all cars except the turbo section which is a $20 supplement). Just call them up and ask them if they have anymore.
I love it and it really helps me work on my S2! -RedBaron |

For me, the best money is on Clark's Garage GSM. Clark's manual has better explantions of most everything.
The Porsche Workshop Manual is helpful, but it seems like every time I look for something in it, it's not covered. But then, for example, they'll spend 20 pages on say, airbags or maybe the central locking system. If you have a problem that's covered, it's great. I also have a copy of the Haynes manual and it's mostly worthless.
