Front Seat(s) questions
Hi all,
I would like to have the front seats redone on my 85.5 944. 944online looks to have a pretty good deal on electric/manual seats recovered in leathermate. Has anyone here ever had these put in? Is leathermate a synthetic type leather? Also how easy/hard is it to remove the seats especially the power seat? Any thoughts/suggestions would be very helpful to me. Kevin |

http://www.928leathershop.com/ Bob only uses the best quality materials and the fit/finish of his seat covers is outstanding. I can say this from my own experience because he did new covers for my '88 924S. As to putting the covers on yourself... well it's a pretty tough job. Set aside plenty of time (like a whole weekend) and take your time. It will help to do it in the summer (or a well heated area) as you need to pull and work the material for the tightest fit. The vinyl or leather will respond better if it's warm. Be sure to note which stays go in each pocket and use plenty of hog rings. Hopefully your foam is still in good shape because that's not available as new replacement in the formed sizes.

See this thread:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=465210 I recovered my own seats in textured German vinyl for $319 shipped.. Perforated center sections, nice stitching.. I had ZERO proir experience doing anything like this.. If you want OEM appearance, spend the bucks and have it done right. Take a look at the pictures I posted in that thread to see what you can have for far less.. unless your car is some sort of museum piece, what I did should be more than satisfactory~ The entire job took a total of 6 hours (I did one seat a night over a weekend) ![]() .

Nice job Kev. I looked at the attached post.
I went with the 928leathershop. I live in Chicago and drove to see him with dash, seats and wheel. Dropped them off in Dec of 06. Picked them up in April of 07. Expensive, yes. It comes down to budget and emotion. There are allot of options. It's relative also. You spend a ton on the inside; the rest of the car needs to look spectacular; otherwise it will look worse.

I agreee Jim.. I'm sure your interior looks spectacular.. I've seen the work that comes out of that shop. For me, it came down to this.. my car is nice..not museum nice, but it's a sharp car but the seats and steering wheel really needed some attention. The shift boot leather was worn too. So, for a total of $600 I got a well used sport seat, upholstery, a Momo wood wheel, and replaced my shifter leather/knob. Now the interior looks 100% better..not perfect, but certainly in nice shape for the year.. I use the car as a daily driver, it has 102K on it.. If my car was a 40K mile, never driven in the rain, showpiece..I might have made a different choice ![]() Here's my car a couple months ago before the interior and snub nose: ![]() ![]() and now: ![]() ![]()
